FAQs - About Detox

What is detoxification?

Detoxification, or detox, is a necessary early phase in finding freedom from drugs or alcohol. The aim of detox is to free the body from its physical dependency on alcohol or other substances. Using advanced medical treatments and natural supplements, toxins that have accumulated in the tissues and organs of the body are cleansed in the most gentle manner possible.

Will detox be difficult?

Most people will experience varying degrees of withdrawal symptoms. For some, the experience is quite mild. Common symptoms may include sweats, shakes, headaches, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, digestive changes, rapid changes of body temperature, cravings and emotional symptoms such as mood swings and anxiety. This is because the body has grown accustomed to the presence and effects of the substance and now must readjust the way it functions. The occurrence, the severity and duration of those symptoms depend on the individual, the nature of the addiction as well as the frequency, quantity and length of use of the substance. At The Bay, we will manage your detox under expert medical supervision and fully support you in easing any discomfort in this important process.

When not properly managed, detoxification can be very unpleasant and dangerous, therefore it is highly recommended that it is executed under medical supervision and in an appropriate setting.

How long will detox last?

Detox from alcohol and most drugs can usually be completed within 4 to 7 days. Withdrawing from some substances such as cocaine or cannabis may cause only minor physical symptoms, nevertheless a professional and supportive environment is often critical to successfully address the psychological nature of dependency.
